From Shelf to Door in Under Two Hours: Inside Mango Logistics Group’s Central London Operation
A customer places an order. Less than two hours later, it is at their door. Here is exactly what happens in between and why the infrastructure behind that promise is more deliberate than it looks.
There is a version of same-day delivery that looks fast from the outside and is held together with improvisation on the inside. Then there is the version that works at scale, under pressure, on a Friday afternoon in December when three clients have urgent orders and traffic on Borough High Street has not moved in forty minutes. That version requires a different kind of infrastructure: purpose-built, properly staffed, and connected end-to-end from the moment an order is placed to the moment it arrives at the door.
Mango Logistics Group operates the second version from its Central London warehouse, minutes from London Bridge. This is a detailed account of what that operation actually looks like from the inside.
Same-day delivery is not a courier problem. It is an infrastructure problem. The courier is the last ten minutes of a process that has to work perfectly for the preceding ninety.
Why location is the foundation of everything
Mango Logistics Group’s Central London warehouse sits minutes from London Bridge, one of the most connected points in the capital. The City of London, Canary Wharf, Shoreditch, Bermondsey, Southwark, Waterloo, Westminster, and the West End are all within a short ride. Zone 1 and Zone 2 are reachable by cargo bike in under twenty minutes from most starting points within the network.
Same-day delivery is, at its core, a proximity problem. A warehouse in Enfield or Croydon, however well-run, is not capable of delivering to a Soho restaurant in under two hours during a Tuesday lunchtime. Central London positioning is not a marketing claim. It is the operational prerequisite for everything that follows.
The warehouse: how stock is held and managed
Intake and receiving
Every client’s stock arrives at the facility by prior arrangement. Inbound vehicles are expected, manifests are prepared in advance, and the intake process begins the moment goods arrive. Items are checked against the manifest — covering quantity, condition, and SKU — and discrepancies are logged immediately. Any product that arrives damaged or outside specification is quarantined and the client notified before it enters live inventory.
Storage and inventory management
Stock is stored in designated locations organised by client, SKU, and rotation requirements. First-in, first-out principles apply as standard. Every product in the warehouse has a live location in the warehouse management system. At any moment, a client can see exactly what they hold, where it is, how much there is, and when it arrived.
The microhub network
Beyond the Central London warehouse, Mango Logistics Group operates a network of microhubs positioned across the capital. These are smaller, strategically located despatch points that allow stock to be positioned even closer to specific delivery zones. For clients with concentrated delivery volumes in particular areas, microhub positioning means a cargo bike can cover a delivery zone that would otherwise require a van, at lower cost and with faster transit.
A warehouse that knows exactly what it holds, where every item is, and what has moved today is not impressive. It is the minimum standard for any operation handling other people’s stock professionally.
The moment an order arrives: what happens next
Order intake and system flow
When a customer places an order, that order data flows into Mango Logistics Group’s warehouse management platform automatically. There is no manual data entry step, no email forwarding to a warehouse team, no phone call to confirm receipt. By the time a client’s customer has finished placing their order, the pick instruction is already generating in the warehouse.
Pick
The pick instruction tells the warehouse operative exactly what to collect, where to find it, and in what quantity. Operatives work from the live system and scan each item at the point of selection to confirm accuracy. Our pick accuracy target is 99.9%, reflecting a process designed around eliminating error at the point it can still be corrected.
Pack
Picked items move to the packing station. Packing is done to the client’s specification: branded packaging where required, protective materials appropriate to the product, correct labelling for the courier handoff. The packed parcel is weighed and dimensioned at the packing station, both to confirm the carrier label is accurate and to catch any discrepancy between expected and actual weight.
Despatch
The packed, labelled parcel moves to despatch. The courier allocation decision has already been made based on the delivery postcode, the parcel dimensions and weight, the requested delivery window, and the real-time status of the fleet. A small inner-city order goes to a cargo bike. A heavier multi-item consignment goes to an electric van.
The fleet: matching vehicle to delivery, every time
Cargo bikes
Cargo bikes are the workhorse of Mango Logistics Group’s Central London operation. In inner-city zones during business hours, a cargo bike consistently outperforms a van on delivery time. They navigate streets and loading areas that larger vehicles cannot access, are unaffected by parking restrictions, carry a meaningful payload for most e-commerce and hospitality delivery requirements, and have no ULEZ charges.
The government specifically identifies e-cargo bikes as suitable for city centres with high densities of smaller deliveries
Electric vans
For heavier loads, larger case quantities, or deliveries outside the immediate central zone, electric vans handle what cargo bikes cannot. The fleet is ULEZ-compliant throughout. Electric vans operate on the same platform as the cargo bike fleet, giving clients a single view of their deliveries regardless of which vehicle type is carrying them.
Fleet allocation logic
The decision about which vehicle handles which delivery is driven by the platform, based on live data: parcel size and weight, delivery postcode, current driver locations, traffic conditions, and the requested delivery window. When conditions change mid-route, the platform re-optimises and re-routes in real time.
Tracking and visibility: what clients and customers see
Client-side visibility
From the moment an order enters the system to the moment proof of delivery is captured, the entire journey is visible to the client through Mango Logistics Group’s web-based platform. For clients whose own systems need to reflect delivery status, the platform integrates via API.
Recipient-facing tracking
End customers receive a live view of their delivery’s progress and an accurate ETA that updates as the driver moves through the route. First-attempt delivery success is the metric that matters most here. A recipient who knows their driver is fifteen minutes away is a recipient who answers the door.
Proof of delivery
Every delivery closes with electronic proof of delivery: a digital signature, a photograph, or a confirmation code, timestamped and location-stamped, fed back into the platform in real time.
What this operation enables for London businesses
- Two-hour delivery across Central London as a standard, repeatable service, not a best-case scenario.
- Same-day delivery across Greater London for orders placed before the cutoff.
- End-to-end fulfilment from stock intake to final mile delivery, managed by one team on one platform.
- B2B and B2C delivery from the same stock holding.
- Operational data that belongs to the client: delivery records, stock movement history, performance metrics.
